Logitech Releases Fix for macOS Mouse Issues Caused by Expired Certificate

Logitech mouse and software setup

If you're a macOS user experiencing issues with your Logitech mouse, there's good news: Logitech has rolled out a fix. These problems surfaced after numerous Reddit users reported that Logi Options Plus — the application used for customizing and managing Logitech accessories — had stopped working. The app's malfunction prevented users from modifying scrolling behaviors, button functions, and gestures.

One Reddit user shared that their Logitech mouse's scroll directions and extra buttons weren't functioning as intended. Additionally, when trying to open Logi Options Plus, the app became stuck in a boot loop. Logitech acknowledged the problem, revealing that its G Hub software for gaming peripherals was also affected.

According to Logitech's support page, the root cause was an expired certificate essential for running these applications. Since macOS enforces strict security protocols that block applications lacking valid Developer ID certificates, affected users experienced disruptions. Notably, Windows users were unaffected by the issue.

A manual patch has now been released to resolve the problem. Users are instructed to install it manually because the expired certificate hindered the in-app updater. Rest assured, device settings, customizations, and profiles will remain intact after applying the update.

The fix supports macOS versions 13 Ventura, 14 Sonoma, 15 Sequoia, and 26 Tahoe, with a plan to release support for older versions later. Logitech spokesperson ATXsantucci apologized for the oversight, emphasizing that "we dropped the ball here" and described the bug as "an inexcusable mistake." The company expressed sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.
