Will Byers Actor Noah Schnapp Feels Something Was Left Unshed in Stranger Things Finale
January 7, 2026

In the critically acclaimed finale of Stranger Things, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, revealed that he felt a crucial moment between his character and Mike was missing. Due to this, Schnapp approached the creators, the Duffer Brothers, to have a new scene written to address this gap.
One of the most pivotal moments in Stranger Things history occurs when Will comes out to his friends and family during the penultimate episode. During this scene, he also confesses to having a crush on someone, saying, “even though I know, I know they’re not like me.” Though it’s implied he's talking about Mike, the realization comes to Mike himself over the course of the speech. The original script left this sub-plot somewhat unresolved until Schnapp discussed it with the creators.
Schnapp Felt Unspoken Elements Needed Clarity
In an interview with People, Schnapp shared, “I did feel there was a little bit left unsaid.” He explained that after speaking with the Duffer Brothers, they added a scene in the finale to properly close the storyline.
The Scene Adds Emotional Closure
The new scene unfolds as the group climbs the radio tower to confront Vecna in their fight to enter the Abyss. During this moment, Mike apologizes to Will, saying, “I should have been there for you, and I wasn’t. I guess I was just so self-absorbed that I couldn’t see it… I feel like an idiot, and I’m sorry.” Will responds with reassurance, “You don’t have to be sorry, and you are not an idiot. I didn’t even understand it myself for a long time. I needed to find my own way. But what matters is that you’re still here, and you still think we can be friends.”
Mike replies, “Friends? No thanks… best friends!” and the friends continue their climb, signaling a renewed bond.
Schnapp’s Perspective on the Final Scene
Reflecting on the added scene, Schnapp said, “If something doesn’t work or if something feels not right, you can speak to them, and they will work with you.” He expressed satisfaction with how the scene turned out, emphasizing that it leaves Will and Mike’s relationship “completely closed and satisfying.”
