LG OLED gaming monitor

Tom Warren, senior editor and author of Notepad, with over 20 years of experience covering Microsoft, PC, and technology topics, reports on LG's latest gaming monitor innovation. LG is set to introduce its new dual mode GX7 OLED monitor in the US, boasting unprecedented refresh rates of up to 720Hz.

Key Features of the LG 27GX790B

Based on LG Display’s fourth-generation WOLED panel, the 26.5-inch 27GX790B offers versatile performance with dual refresh rate modes. It can operate at:

  • 540Hz in 1440p resolution
  • 720Hz in 720p resolution

The monitor's dual mode functionality allows users to switch between the two settings seamlessly via a hotkey. This flexibility enables gamers to enjoy high-frame-rate esports titles at 720Hz and revert to a higher resolution for other games that don’t require such speeds.

Brightness, Response, and Compatibility

LG claims this model is their brightest OLED gaming monitor yet, achieving:

  • Maximum brightness of 335 nits, thanks to the latest tandem OLED technology
  • Response time of just 0.02ms

It also supports advanced features including:

  • DisplayPort 2.1
  • NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility
  • DisplayHDR True Black 500

Pricing and Availability

Priced at $999.99, preorders for the LG 27GX790B start today in the US. To encourage early purchase, LG is bundling a 27-inch 1080p IPS display (worth $299.99) with all preorders made through February 1st. However, LG has not yet disclosed the ship date for preorders.

Stay tuned for updates on release dates and additional features from LG.
