Simu Liu, star of Shang-Chi, recently recounted a memorable experience visiting Robert Downey Jr’s trailer during the filming of the upcoming Avengers movie, Doomsday. This story has sparked amusement among fans and insiders alike.

A Glimpse into 'Downey Land'

As anticipation for Robert Downey Jr's portrayal of Doctor Doom builds, Marvel fans are eager for new updates. Just days ago, Disney released teasers hinting at the return of beloved characters like Captain America and Thor.

During a recent interview with Collider, Liu shared a humorous detail about his time on set. He described visiting Downey’s personal trailer area, affectionately dubbed Downey Land:

“Downey famously has this convoy of trailers and this whole area in base camp that we affectionately called Downey Land,” Liu said. “And I remember getting invited to Downey Land for the first time and just showing up in this tent, and it’s all this beautiful Andy Warhol-esque artwork, except all the characters are Downey. I mean, he’s so self-aware.”

The Luxurious Set-Up and Lunch Takeover

Liu added that Downey’s trailer compound isn’t just about aesthetics; it also includes a dedicated team of chefs. He recalled, “He greeted me, and then I didn’t realize that Downey Land has its own chefs, but I had brought my set lunch, and he was like, ‘Oh, no, no, no. We don’t do that here.’ The chefs had come and laid out this full buffet, and I was like, ‘Oh, I’ll put this away.’”

Liu expressed awe at the scene, saying, “And then just the people walking through, I was like, ‘I cannot believe I’m having lunch with these people.’”

Fans React to Downey's 'Self-Aware' Comment

The mention of Downey being “self-aware” caused a flurry of reactions online. Some viewers questioned the appropriateness of the term:

  • “What an interesting use of ‘self-aware,’” one commented.
  • “This sounds like the opposite of self-aware to me,” said another.
  • A third added, “That’s a weird definition of self-aware.”

Others, however, saw it as fitting for Downey:

  • “Feels like a very Doom thing to do,” one fan remarked.
  • “He’s in character always,” suggested another.
  • “He used to be Tony Stark 24/7, this feels a bit more Doom. I’m here for it,” expressed a third.

Many fans appreciated how Downey’s elaborate trailer setup might help him get into the character’s mindset, with some calling him a “legend” for his commitment.

Anticipation for Doomsday

The film, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, is poised to be a major highlight of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans are eagerly awaiting whether these behind-the-scenes stories will translate into an epic onscreen portrayal.
