Xbox TV App Launches on Select LG Smart TVs
January 5, 2026

Microsoft has announced the rollout of its Xbox TV app on LG smart TVs, allowing users to stream and play Xbox games directly on their TV screens. Senior editor Tom Warren reports that this new feature is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to bring Xbox gaming to multiple devices beyond dedicated consoles.
Earlier this year, Microsoft revealed that LG TVs would gain access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, and the rollout begins today for selected LG models. The app enables owners to enjoy Xbox games via streaming, using a wireless controller for a seamless gaming experience.
The Xbox TV app is available on LG’s 2022 OLED TVs, select 2023 smart TVs, and newer models running webOS 24 or higher. It will also soon be accessible on LG’s portable StanbyME screens. On the latest LG TVs from 2025, the app is pre-installed within the LG gaming portal, while older models require users to download it from the LG app store.
To run the Xbox app, LG’s 2022 OLED TVs and some 2023 models need the latest firmware update. Users will also need to connect a Bluetooth-enabled controller and subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to stream games effectively.
Microsoft first introduced its Xbox TV app on Samsung smart TVs in 2022, followed by an expansion to older models. The app closely resembles the web version of Xbox Cloud Gaming, offering a console-like experience without the need for an Xbox Series X or Series S console.
This initiative reflects Microsoft’s vision to make Xbox accessible on any screen, emphasizing that “every screen is an Xbox now.” The Xbox TV app represents a significant step toward achieving seamless gaming experiences across a variety of devices and platforms.
