Acer's Oversized Gaming Handhelds: The Status and Future Plans

January 5, 2026

Acer made a significant splash at CES 2025 with the unveiling of its massive Nitro Blaze 11 gaming handheld, a device characterized by its surfboard-like size. The announcement generated considerable excitement, especially among avid gamers eager for a powerful, portable gaming experience. However, the launch of this innovative product, originally slated for the second quarter, has yet to materialize, and there has been little word on its progress or release.

The Nitro Blaze 11's ambitious design captured attention, inspiring gamers to repurpose existing devices, such as Asus’ gaming tablets, to meet their needs temporarily. Nonetheless, the absence of the Blaze from the market has left enthusiasts wondering about its future.

In discussions with Acer representatives during CES 2026, it became clear that the product’s delay is tied to broader geopolitical and economic issues. Lisa Emard of Acer America explained, “When we announced those products, it was just ahead of the tariffs situation. We wound up focusing on our core products—primarily laptops—because we needed to find manufacturing options outside of China.” She further clarified that there are no immediate plans to resume development or release of the Blaze series at this time.

The Blaze's postponement exemplifies how trade tensions and tariffs can impact product development and deployment, especially within the tech industry. While gamers remain hopeful for its eventual arrival, for now, Acer is prioritizing its existing lineup and adjusting to a shifting manufacturing landscape.
