Heart Machine Shuts Down Patreon Amid Project Development Challenges

January 6, 2026

Indie game studio Heart Machine has officially discontinued its Patreon account. Last year, the studio explained that it was considering Patreon as a means to address financial difficulties, stating, “money is tough to come by.” However, in a late December update, Heart Machine announced it was pausing its Patreon indefinitely.

The studio cited the early stages of its current projects as the primary reason for the shutdown, noting, “our current projects are too nascent for us to provide updates or ongoing material that would make this Patreon feel meaningful or worthwhile.” The email containing this update indicates that the Patreon page is now inaccessible to the public.

Reflecting on the experience, Heart Machine expressed that trying out Patreon provided valuable insights and fostered a stronger connection with its community. The studio found the direct engagement to be “genuinely valuable and so meaningful to us,” despite the challenges faced in maintaining the platform during this developmental phase.
